Digi.Com Bhd expects to commercially
launch its Enhanced Data Rates for Global
Evolution (EDGE) services in the current
quarter after the ‘DiGi
NOW — The Future Fast
Forward’ EDGE showcase
on April 16, says chief executive officer
Tore Johnsen.
Speaking after introducing DiGi’s
partners for EDGE services on April 6,
he said DiGi was the only telco in Malaysia
and the third in Asia to make the EDGE
technology commercially available.
The EDGE technology enables high speed
mobile data transfer required for such
applications as movie and music downloads,
live television broadcast and traffic
information delivery.
He said the EDGE partners —
beMobile, Channel 9, Ericsson Malaysia
Sdn Bhd, iNavigate, Nokia Mobile, Natseven
TV and Siemens Mobile —
would be participating in the showcase,
in which visitors could go beyond simple
text and voice messaging and experience
3G-like services. The showcase will run
from mid-April to mid-June.
At least 15 new EDGE-enabled handset
models will be available by the third
quarter, up from six models currently.
